The Department of State and Municipal Management was founded in 1965. It is the graduating department of the Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University in the direction of undergraduate 38.03.04 "State and municipal management", in the direction of magistracy 38.04.02 "Regional management and municipal management".

AT different periods of its activities, the department was called "Scientific Communism", "Political Science, Sociology and Culture", " Social Sciences and public administration”, “Management and public administration”.

The department was founded in 1991. by decision of the Academic Council of the University in order to train highly qualified specialists in the field of psychology and municipal government. The founder of the department is Doctor of Philosophy Professor Ivanova Valentina Fedorovna.

The traditions of the cathedral staff are pedagogical excellence and scientific authority, high culture and morality, respect for students and staff, exactingness towards themselves and responsibility for work. November 24, 2018 at the Department of State and Municipal Administration of the Institute of Social and Humanitarian Education of the Moscow State Pedagogical University, the International Student Scientific and Practical Conference "State and Municipal Administration in the 21st Century: Theory, Methodology, Practice, VII Round" was held.

Eighteen senior students and students of the master's programs "Organization of the State Civil Service (Municipal Service)" (MPGU), "System of State and Municipal Administration" (RANEPA under the President of the Russian Federation, RUDN) made presentations at the conference, presenting the results of their research activities, including those carried out in the process of preparing final qualification works, mainly master's theses. For the first time, students of the Moscow State Pedagogical University branch in Pokrov (Vladimir region) presented the results of their scientific research at the discussion platform of the Institute for Social and Humanitarian Education.

Advisor to the Office for Interaction with Representative and Executive Authorities of the Prefecture of the Central Administrative District of Moscow Kirill Alexandrovich Ordak in his speech on "Improvement of the GAS "Vybory" system and prospects for the use of variable IT -technologies in the electoral process» emphasized that GAS "Vybory" is one of the largest information and analytical systems in the country, provides management processes and implementation of both state and public control over the conduct of election campaigns in the Russian Federation itself high level. Formation of a unified information and legal space of the Russian Federation: problems and ways to solve them

On March 2, 2018, as part of the Second Interuniversity Student Scientific and Practical Conference "Homo instagramus: a person in a digital society" of the Institute of Social and Humanitarian Education of the Moscow State Pedagogical University, the Department of State and Municipal Administration organized the work of Section 1.1 "Formation of a unified information and legal space of the Russian Federation: problems and ways to solve them.

At the session of the section, which was attended by students of I - IV courses, studying in the direction of training "State and municipal management" and students of master's programs of the ISGO MSGU, the issues of forming the regulatory legal framework of the state scientific and technological policy, implemented both at the federal and and at the regional level; problems associated with finding ways to develop the information and telecommunications network "Internet" in the spatial dimension, creating "access points" to the global network on the periphery; prospects for the establishment of the institution of e-democracy and e-voting in the Russian Federation.

In accordance with the general perspective of the ongoing scientific event and the specifics of the work of the thematic section, young scientists - participants of the Student Research Laboratory "Innovation", could not avoid discussing the problems of the possible introduction of censorship in the information and telecommunications network "Internet", the preservation of "human nature" in the coming “Bodynet era”, the use of “artificial intelligence” in the management decision-making system.
