Given the critical role played by Information Technology in modern education, and taking into account existing budgetary constraints, Microsoft has developed a number of software licensing programs specifically for educational institutions.

The prices of Microsoft products available under academic programs are significantly reduced compared to the cost of similar licenses purchased under volume licensing programs.

Volume Licensing Programs for Educational Institutions

Microsoft Academic Open License intended for educational institutions purchasing licenses for use on 5 or more PCs. This is a preferential program that provides the opportunity to purchase permanent licenses for software Microsoft at lower prices than standard volume license prices.

School Agreement and EES(licensing programs by subscription from 300 PCs) are intended only for primary, secondary and higher educational institutions and educational institutions authorities. They also use preferential pricing, but unlike the Academic Open License, they provide a number of additional benefits (in particular, Software Assurance) and fundamentally different licensing conditions.

Please note that these licensing programs do not provide the ability to purchase full version Windows operating system (only the Upgrade version of Windows is available for them).

ADVICE: The easiest and cheapest way to legally use Windows XP Prof or Windows 7 Pro in school is to purchase the following two items:

  1. Windows 7 Starter Rus (or Windows 7 Home Basic Rus) OLP NL Acdmc Legalization GetGenuine
  2. Windows Upgrade OLP NL Acdmc (or under the School Agreement and EES programs)

Can I use Windows XP Pro instead of Windows 7?

Yes, you can!

You can use the Downgrade right (the ability to use all previous versions of the product in any combination and on any number of PCs under the agreement), after purchasing Windows Upgrade licenses (second position in the list). That is, for example, if you have entered into an agreement for 5 PCs, you can use Windows 7 on one, Windows Vista on another, and Windows XP on the other three. But only one version of the OS on one PC and only on five PCs.

Full versions of the Windows desktop operating system for new computers are recommended to be purchased as OEM versions (that is, pre-installed on new computers).

Basic versions of Windows desktop OS for existing computers are recommended to be purchased through the Get Genuine Windows® Agreement for Academic (GGWA-A) program
