I have just finished school number ... My school is (not) very new and modem and (but) it is very conformable and all the pupils like it very much, it is really home for everyone, who studies there. It has three (four, five, two) floors. The classrooms are light and high. There are classrooms for practically all the subjects - English, History, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Geography, Literature, etc. There is a computer class in our school, where pupils study computing, one of the most important subjects nowadays. There is a school hall in our school, too. Meetings, conferences, concerts and all the celebrations take place there.

Our school has a gymnasium and a sports ground. Many pupils are fond of sport and they have a good opportunity to go in for different sports there.

I am very thankful to my school. When I was only seven years old, I entered it to get some knowledge and I know many things now thanks to my school and my teachers. The teachers in my school are very kind and clever, they give all their knowledge and all their love to the pupils.

There is a good tradition in our school. Every year the school leavers come here to meet their teachers and classmates. Such meetings are very touching and interesting.

I "ll never forget my school, my favorite teachers and my classmates. It is my childhood and it is the happiest period in one" s life, to my mind. My first friends, my first love and my first achievements and disappointments are all connected with my school life.

I just finished school number... My school is not very new and modem and (but) it is very appropriate and all pupils like it are very much at home for everyone who studies there. It has three (four, five, two) floors. The classrooms are light and tall. There are classrooms for virtually all subjects - English, History, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Geography, Literature, etc. There is a computer lab in our school - where students study computing, one of the most important subjects at the moment. There is a school hall in our school, too. Meetings, conferences, concerts and all celebrations take place there.

Our school has a gymnasium and a sports ground. Many students love sports and they have a good opportunity to play various sports there.

I am very grateful to my school. When I was only seven years old I got into it to get some knowledge and I know a lot of things now thanks to my school and my teachers. The teachers in my school are very kind and smart, they give all their knowledge and all their love to the students.

Our school has good tradition. Every year school leavers come here to meet their teachers and classmates. Such meetings are very touching and interesting.

I will never forget my school, my favorite teachers and my classmates. This is my childhood and this is the happiest period in my life, in my opinion. My first friends, my first love and my first achievements and disappointments are all related to my school life.

Pupils spend at school the most important years in their lives. In this period they grow up, get stronger, find friends, develop their talents and skills and begin to understand life.
Every school has its traditions. Our school is very new; it's only 4 years old, so we don't have many traditions. We celebrate Day of Knowledge, Teacher’s Day, New Year, February 23, March 8, Last Call, Victory Day, St. Valentine's Day, health day in our school.
School usually starts on the 1st of September and this day is special for all: school children, their teachers and parents. There is a meeting outside the school building. Students look really nice in their new school uniforms. There are always a lot of flowers, parents and guests are invited and everybody looks beautiful.
All pupils say that Last Call is their favorite. It's a happy and sad moment at the same time.
Also we like St. Valentine's Day with card, sweets and hearts everywhere.
The main tradition in our school is our health day. You want to be healthy you have to do more sports. Special events and numerous competitions are organized at our school. You had better care about your health when you are young.
I have always been fond of taking part in extra-class activities such as concerts, debate clubs, intellectual games, sports competitions, picnics and excursions. These activities are popular with pupils, teachers and parents as they help to create a kind of team spirit.
In my opinion, these traditions help us to be united and learn new things which are important to us. I think I will never forget my school, teachers, classmates and our school traditions.

SCHOOL TRADITIONS

Let's talk about school traditions. School is not only learning. A school year is nine months long and it's full of events! Many of them became traditions because they happen every year on the same dates. Some traditions are similar in all Belarusian schools, some are unique.

The school year starts on September, 1. This day is special for all: schoolchildren, their teachers and parents. The day starts with the school gathering when all classes and teachers stand in front of the school and listen to the welcoming speeches of their teachers, schoolmates and parents. Students look really nice in their new school uniforms! Everyone is excited to see their school friends and teachers after long summer holidays. After the school gathering teachers take their classes to their classrooms for the first lesson. When the lesson is over, students may have a class event – a picnic or a walk in the park or a class trip. The events of this day are usually the same every year but everyone waits for this day, likes it and remembers it.

Besides the 1st of September, there are a lot of other interesting traditions at school. They are the Teachers' Day, Women's Day, Health Days, Reunion Day, School Olympiads, Autumn and Spring Sports Weeks and others.

On Women's Day there are concerts for girls and women in every school. Boys and men give them flowers and presents. On Teachers' Day there are concerts for teachers. Pupils give flowers to their teachers. On Reunion Day all school leavers gather together at schools. They come and meet their teachers and their former classmates. On School Olympiads there are competitions in all school subjects. On Health Day schoolchildren have a talk with doctors and carry out class projects on health.

But my favorite school tradition is the Sports Week. I like it. You have the opportunity to show your athletic skills and abilities. We have Sports Weeks every season but my favorite is the Autumn Sports Week and it's the last week of September. The Sports Week takes place in all school sports grounds: in the gym, on the football pitch and the basketball and volleyball courts.

Everyone from the 1st to the 11th class takes part in it. Our teachers take part in some events too. There is a wide range of activities which the Sport Week offers. It opens with a running race in which all students take part. Then we have competitions in different sports: we play sports games, run, jump. The week finishes with the Closing ceremony where the winners get their cups, medals and prizes.

STUDYING AT SCHOOL

Let's talk about studying at school. All children at the age of six go to school. Schooling is free, universal and compulsory. Children leave school at the age of seventeen, so school becomes their second home. Its aim is to help students find strengths. School tries to develop their talents and abilities. It offers the best facilities for all the students. School encourages interest and enthusiasm both during and after classes. Our Belarusian school is famous for its tradition of Honesty, Friendliness and Excellence. Respect for each other is the golden rule, because every child is an individual.

School classes usually begin at eight o'clock. Children have classes five days a week. But on Saturdays they have some extra-curriculum activities. Every day schoolchildren have five or six lessons. Students have a timetable. There are many different subjects on the timetable. They study Russian and Belarusian, Maths, English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, PE and Handcraft. After the second lesson they have lunch.

Students have at their disposal a library, a foreign language study, Chemistry, Biology and Physics laboratories and a gym. The library has thousands of books, audio books, reference books and multimedia computers, which are necessary for making projects and self-study. Here the students can do their homework, search for the information on the Internet and relax reading books.

At the laboratories for Chemistry, Biology and Physics the students can conduct experiments and carry out scientific projects. It is necessary for those who want to learn Science in their future life.

The Language Study is a language laboratory with computers. Here the students can practice foreign languages and get help from experienced teachers. It is helpful if they want to enrich their vocabulary and to get a better command of a foreign language.

The gym is used for many different sports and after-class activities with all the equipment.

The classes are over at one or two o'clock. After classes the students go in for sports, dancing, drawing and other activities. There is a number of school clubs and societies for each pupil, which offer opportunities to develop different talents and skills.

Schoolchildren have autumn, winter and spring holidays for ten days. School is over at the end of May and summer holidays are the longest.

There are four seasons in a year. They are winter, spring, summer and autumn. There are three months in each season. December, January and February are winter months. March, April and May are spring months. Summer months are June, July and August. Then Autumn months come: September, October and November.

Winter is the coldest season of the year. Summer is the warmest season. Spring is warmer than winter but it is colder than summer. Autumn is also colder than summer but it is warmer than winter.

Every season has its own charm and is good in its own way. There is much snow in winter. It often snows. I like to ski, skate and sledge in winter. In spring we enjoy the first grass, green leaves and the first flowers. The sun shines

brighter and the days become longer. Summer is the hottest season when there are a lot of fruit, berries and vegetables. Schoolchildren have their longest holidays. It "s my favorite season. I like to swim, lie in the sun, play outdoors in summer. The weather is usually fine. Sometimes it rains. But the rains are usually warm.

Autumn comes after summer. It brings rain and cold weather. But it "s a tasty and beautiful season. Because there are a lot of fruits in autumn: apples, pears, grapes, plums, watermelons and melons. The leaves are red, green and yellow and they fall down from the trees. On the 1 st of September we go to school.

weather and climate

Now let's talk about the environment. People say that our planet is in danger. Do you share this opinion?

Yes, I do. Our Earth is so beautiful. It's full of wonders and gives people it's reaches to live and enjoy. Our ancestors used nature as consumers and in the 20 th century man’s economic activities began to produce an increasingly negative effect on the environment. One of the consequences is acid rain. Another one is water shortage resulting from abuse of arable lands in agriculture. The third one is destroying the ozone layer of the Earth through pollution from factories & plants. The fourth problem is damage to water & soils. The fifth one is damage to wildlife: numerous species of animals & plants can disappear. In our country the worst problem is probably the effect of the Chernobyl disaster.

What do you think people should do to protect the environment?

We can't live without fresh air, clean water, sunshine, and a lot of things which we take from nature. That's why we must take care of it. We must learn to use the environment carefully & protect it from damage caused by man’s activities. It is the small efforts of each individual that can add up to a great result.

What would you like to ask your British friend about measures that are taken to protect the environment?

What environmental issues are the most crucial for your country?

Which waste in Britain are recycled?

Do people in your country save electricity/water?

Are there many “green events” in your country? Have you ever taken part in any of them?

A friend of yours wants to develop a program to protect the city where he lives. Give him a piece of advice.

It's not too late to solve ecological problems. And in your city you have the time. The money and even the technologies to make your city a better, cleaner and safer place. You can maintain a blog on environmental issues and green living. You can plant trees that are a great source of oxygen, turn down the heating to save the energy, say “no” to plastic bags and take your own shopping bag to the supermarket. Take your waste into separate bins for glass, for plastic and for metal in order to recycle it. Do these things yourself and ask your friends and neighbors to follow.

Green school of the year contest is held in the country and you want your school to enter it. Give ideas of some green events.

Eco-farming. We may use some agro-ecological methods at our school garden show the results (our harvest) in public and teach others.

We may fit energy-saving light bulbs all over the college and save electricity. We may take our old notebooks and other paper wastes and prepare them for recycling.

The organization of “Green” Saturdays with planting trees and bushes will be of great value too.

I think I can make a long speech about my school and I should say that in general I have sweet memories of the … years I have spend at one and the same school.

When I am talking about my school I mean a whole complex of things which made up my life there, influenced my views and outlook, formed my character to some degree. I studied at school No. ... in ... It is famous for its high quality of education.

It is common knowledge that success of school education depends mainly on the teachers, their professional skills, their attitude to the subjects they teach and the kind of relationship they can establish with the pupils. Here I'd like to say that my teachers are highly educated people. They are strongly devoted to their work and what is no less important their attitude to the pupils is always friendly and tolerant My favorite subject at school is … We have a very good and enthusiastic teacher who inspired in me an interest of… She is a very fair person and the manner of her teaching is perfect. The pupils are well-disciplined and well-behaved at her lessons

The atmosphere in the school is based on common sense, tolerance, and mutual respect. Poor behavior especially any form of bullying is treated very firmly.

I like the friendly atmosphere at my school. It gives me a real pleasure to go there and to communicate with my coevals. I like my class. I always feel at home there. Everybody is so friendly and easy to get along with. I was on good terms with my classmates and we often spent our free time together.

Our school looks nice and lovely. It's a clean and attractive three-storeyed building. The school building itself is of a typical design with the same layout and the distribution of classrooms, administrative offices, canteens, gyms and libraries as you can see in most other schools. When you enter the school you will see a large entrance hall, cloakrooms, on the left there is a gym, a library, Headmistress’s office and straight is the canteen.

There are two wings in our school. One is given to junior children. During the breaks they rush along the corridor making a lot of noise. On the first floor there is an Assembly Hall where all kind of performances, concerts and meetings are held, teachers′ room, a computer class, and a lot of classrooms to study. On the second floor you can find physics and chemistry labs which are equipped with many devices for carrying out experiments and classrooms.

I’d like to say once again that school means a lot to me, and now my heart is full of gratitude to most of my teachers and to many of my friends who make my school life enjoyable.

Do you agree that our school gives a person a good start in life? Why?

I entirely [ɪn'taɪəlɪ] agree with it . School provides us with a certain amount of knowledge in science and humanities. We study a variety of subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computr Science, Biology, the Belarusian and Russian Languages, English. Students attend optional classes in different subjects in order to pass centralized tests with flying colors and enter the best universities. At school we make friends, gain interpresonal and leadership skills, develop moral qualities, learn to get on with different people, overcome difficulties, set priorities, develop our talents and skills.

Let's talk about school traditions

Our school has a lot of exciting traditions.

It has become a tradition to open a new school year with the' First Bell' holiday. In the morning on the first of September the first and eleventh formers parade in front of the school the headmistress, teachers, pupils, parents greet the children and wish them success in studies.

Every first Saturday of February we celebrate the School-leavers Reunion Day. School leavers of different years come to our school and speak about their school years and share their life experience with us. Then the schoolchildren give a concert. It's usually a very interesting and useful event.

Of course such parties as New Year, the 8th of March are celebrated with great amusement.

We also get acquainted with the traditions of English-speaking countries and celebrate such holidays as Christmas ,Valentine's Day , St Patrick's Day and many others.

One of the most important traditions of our school is the Last Bell holiday, when the 11th forms say good-bye to their school, thank their teachers, ask children to love their school, to keep carefully its traditions. Flowers, the words of greeting, love and respect are seen and heard in every corner of the school.

Our school also participates in the international exchange program. Every year a group of Danish schoolchildren and teachers comes to our school. They stay at our students’ and then our students and teachers go to their country, they host us in return. Our guests take part in all school events. We organize concerts, excursions, presentations about our country its culture and traditions. To sum it up I think our school has a lot of traditions that students and teachers should keep up carefully.

What can you tell me about the system of education in Belarus?

The system of education in the Republic of Belarus is based on national traditions and global trends in education area. Today Belarusian educational system includes pre-school education, general secondary school, vocational education, secondary special education, higher education.

The system of education of the Republic of Belarus includes different types of educational establishments: kindergartens, nurseries , primary, basic and secondary schools, gymnasiums, lyceums, child's home, boarding school ,vocational schools and technical lyceums, (technicums, uchilishche and colleges) ,universities, academies, [ə'kædəmɪ], institutes ['ɪn(t)stɪtjuːt] and higher colleges.

There are two official languages within the education system in Belarus, Russian and Belarusian.

Pre-school education is not compulsory in Belarus but around 70% of children attend nursery or kindergarten before they start school. These institutions are for children under six years. Children are taught pre-reading and pre-writing as well as basic mathematics. The children learn to follow a timetable and there are classroom rules which teach respect and consideration for their classmates and the teacher. The public nurseries and kindergartens are free of charge but parents should cover about 60% of the meal’s cost.

Most children in Belarus start school at the age of 6. The school year begins on the first of September for all grades and lasts thirty-four weeks. School education in Belarus consists of elementary(or primary), basic and secondary school. The five-year basic secondary school is compulsory.

During the first four years of school children learn such basic skills as writing, reading, counting, get some information about nature and society, get acquainted with a healthy way of life.

At secondary school students study subjects such as the Belarusian and Russian languages and literatures, a Foreign Language, History of Belarus and the World's History, Man and Society, Mathematics, Information Technologies, Geography, Biology, Physics, Chemistry ,music, fine arts, physical training and labor education. Children can also attend optional classes if they want to study some subjects at a profound level.

The 10-grade assessment system of knowledge is used. Upon completion of grade 9 students have to pass the examinations to receive the certificate of basic education. Students can continue their education at secondary schools, gymnasiums, lyceums, uchilishches(vocational schools) technicums,(technical schools) At the end of grade 11 students sit the final examination and if successful receive the certificate of (complete) general secondary education.

2. Do you agree that Belarusian secondary school provides a person with good knowledge? Why?

Yes, I absolutely agree that Belarusian secondary school provides a person with good knowledge. First of all, students at our schools study a variety of subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Information technology, Biology, the Belarusian and Russian languages, a Foreign language. We have highly qualified teachers who are strongly devoted to their job. What is more, we can attend optional classes in different subjects and study these subjects at a profound level.

Today some young people think that having a good education is (not)important. Do you agree with this?

In my opinion it is very important to have a good education nowadays because we live in a fast changing competitive world. It is extremely important to be able to find your place in this world to be able to adapt to constantly changing conditions. Deep knowledge of in different spheres can help you to understand the world around you and yourself, can help you get a well-paid, prestigious job with good working conditions, job promotion. Most professions require qualifications or even a degree. A good education can become the foundation of your career. Good education develops your ability to find information , to think creatively in order to solve problems. What is more good education can help you bring-up your own children and help them with their schoolwork. While studying you will be in touch with intelligent, cultured, original people, which is a very beneficial experience. If you have a good knowledge of English you can communicate with people from all over the world and get a lot of interesting information, read books and watch films in the original. To sum it up it is very important to have a good education.

Ask me what problems I had when I was a student?

one . What was the most difficult subject for you when you studied at school?

2. Did you get on well with your teachers?

3. I would like to know what subjects you didn't like at school.

4. Were there any bullies at your school?

5 Did you have any problems with your classmates or teachers?

Ask me whether I liked school when I was a pupil? What kind of pupil I was at school?

What were your favorite subjects?

Who was your favorite teacher at school?

Did you like Physics?

Were you good at languages?

You got on well with your classmates, didn't you?

What subject did you dislike?

You are talking to a British student. What would you advise himher to do to prepare for an exam well?

First of all, if you want to do well at your exams you should attend all your classes, work hard at the lessons, make notes, because when you put down the key points , you memorize them better , ask your teacher or classmates to help you if you don't understand something. What is more, you should do your homework properly and regularly. It would be wise to make a revision timetable before the examination. If you organize your time properly, you will feel more confident, and will be more likely to get good grades. Whenever you feel under stress, you should take a break and do something relaxing for a while. And finally the night before you sit the exam, go to bed early and get a good night sleep. If you follow this advice, you will pass your exams with flying colours.

Today some young people want to study abroad because they believe that the level of education is higher there, would you do the same?

As for me, I would prefer to study in Belarus because I think that the level of education here is quite high , what is more, the knowledge I can get in our country is more suitable for work in Belarus because laws and paperwork are different in different countries. Moreover, there is a wide choice of higher educational establishments such as universities, higher colleges, institutes, academies in our country. In Belarus I can study full time or by correspondence or at evening classes. To my mind, it is much easier to study in your own language. The most important thing for me is that I want to be close to my family and friends.

Which school club would you advise your classmate to join?

First of all, it depends on his or her talents and interests but I think that joining our volley-ball team could be very beneficial. Playing volleyball is exciting as you will take part in different competitions, moreover it is good for health as you will take more exercise. You can relax and get rid of your everyday stress. What is more, playing volley-ball can teach you to work in a team which is very important.
