Tasks for knowledge of the colors of the English language. Learn colors in English. For children and parents. How easy it is to memorize English words. Memorization of colors. Color games in English

The theme “Colors” in English for kids is one of the first to be taken: it is simple, there are few basic colors to study, everything is easy to visualize.

The lesson begins, as always, with a greeting, the so-called “hello song” (I described the structure of the lesson in detail). Then a small exchange of greetings, answers to the question “how are you?” - and you can start learning new material.

Show the child pre-prepared cards of different colors. Show - name the color, repeat in Russian. Ask to show and name this color in the environment.

The main colors that the child gets acquainted with:

  • red - red;
  • yellow - yellow;
  • blue - blue;
  • green - green;
  • pink - pink;
  • purple - purple;
  • brown - brown;
  • gray - gray;
  • black - black;
  • white - white.

No need to “dump” all the colors on the child at once. You can start with 4-5, and add more next time.

Even if the baby is just starting to get acquainted with English, do not be afraid to name objects for him. The object named in combination with the color (and shown in the picture) will be deposited in memory. Even if the child does not remember it, the connection will appear and next time it will be easier for him to perceive the information.

Color games in English

While you are at the initial stage of acquaintance with the language, most of the time in the lesson, the children still do not talk, but listen, draw, play outdoor games, sculpt, glue applications, and so on. In other words, they do what they are good at.

Here are 2 activity games you can suggest.

race track

Cut into small squares of different colors. Prepare a landscape sheet: in the upper left corner, stick flags symbolizing the finish. Invite the child to stick squares of any color in arbitrary places. After the squares are glued, draw a car on the side and build a race track from it - draw a line through all the squares.

Now it's time for the races! It is very reckless for kids (at least for my daughter it was definitely exciting) - to lead a finger along the road “at speed” and name the colors through which you “pass”. Try racing or taking turns. When you “ride” yourself, you can even make a couple of mistakes in the name of the color for the child to notice and correct.

Caterpillar

The principle of the game is the same. Give the baby mugs of different colors, let him make a caterpillar on a piece of paper. And then you need to walk along it with your fingers, as if along a path and name the colors (here and the training of fine motor skills!).

In the following lessons, you can repeat the topic of flowers in the context of the new material being studied (fruits, toys, pets, etc.).

Sometimes it is easier for children to memorize foreign words when they are inscribed in their native language. Offer the child such a rhyme with "agreements":

Ripe, fresh apple color

red in english red.

Got sick? Will come to the rescue

Useful orange - orange.

Sun and ripe lemon

English yellow - yellow.

The tree always has the same color

All year round green - green.

I fish in the summer

In the bright blue sea - blue.

The boy Styopa ate the grapes,

Purple he is purple.

Piglet-naughty

Pink colour - pink.

We all like chocolate

He is brown, he is brown.

The snow in winter does not melt,

name white - white.

Cloudy rainy days

How will the gray be? Gray!

The nose of a dog named Jack

Like black coal black.

Video for learning the topic "Color" in English for kids

Without video materials now anywhere. It's good that you can find a lot of high-quality songs that will be interesting for children 3-4 years old. My daughter could watch some videos dozens of times, trying to sing along in English.

Here are just a few that can be shown to children (of course, not all at once, but within several classes).

Video about colorful butterflies in English:

Balloon video:

Colors and objects of these colors:

6 primary colors in a very simple song with a simple but catchy video sequence:

Video from the series "find the color". The same type of songs in which you need to find objects of a given color. I see something blue

Don't forget to sharpen your skills! Name the colors of objects and surrounding things on walks and at home. The child will remember them quickly enough, but without repetition, this knowledge will not last long.

Interesting and fruitful lessons for you! I would be grateful if you share interesting games and activities on this topic in the comments!

And about how easy it is to memorize English words. And today we had memorization of colors - I hope - effective?

Thanks for reading! Share your successes! We'd love to hear about them!

Colors are the first thing that a small person sees when he plunges into this wonderful, unknown world. Look into the eyes of a child: how much curiosity and delight are in them. In childhood, the baby is surrounded by bright nature, colorful beautiful toys, and the love and care of the mother helps to understand all this colorful splendor. On the examples of the objects surrounding him, the child receives the first lessons in the color harmony of the world.

And no matter what language you teach your child, this rule is invariable - you need to start with the study of color. Today we will tell you how to engage with children so that they easily and quickly memorize colors in English. So what should a parent or teacher know?

Colors in English There will be no complicated schemes here, because your child is still too small, so you need to teach him very simply. We start with the names of the primary colors, having previously made the material at hand in the form of color cards. Cards can be replaced with figures of men, animals, fruits, vegetables. It is very good if there is living material nearby in the form of a bouquet or a dish with gifts from gardens and orchards. We teach not with a dull enumeration, but with fun: for example, you can ask a child to pull out the most beautiful flower from a bouquet or eat the most delicious fruit and name its color in English. For example:

  • flower is red
  • apple-is yellow

Along the way, we learn simple phrases, such as:

  • What is the color?
  • This color is beautiful

By the way, children have an excellent perception of warm and cold colors. You can conduct a simple experiment by asking him to name a hot or cold color. He will almost certainly choose:

  • orange (yellow, red) is hot
  • white (blue) is cold - white (blue) cold

It's just that the baby draws these sensations from nature. He already knows that the yellow sun warms, the fire burns, and the white (blue) snow is cold.

We also consolidate knowledge in a fun way: we constantly play, watch cartoons and video lessons.

Turning a lesson into a game

We play games like this:

  • reach the prize (toys) - you can play it as a board (outdoor) game, you can expand the game to the scale of a room, replacing, for example, playing fields on paper with real tracks of colored traces
  • “Repeater-tangler” - we repeat the colors and specifically name some one incorrectly, the baby must correct this mistake himself, which will bring him a lot of joy
  • game for attention - we remove some color, and ask the baby to say which one is missing
  • a game of “finish the verse” - we say the whole verse, and the kid should say the ending

For example, here are some verses:

  • we today ate what an apple... yellow!

Showing a tomato or a cherry or a picture of fire: Flashcards for learning English

  • the whole world with this color warmed up and it's called... red!

Showing tree:

  • Up the tree is you look what leaves on a tree ... green

Looking at the sky

  • I look at the sky I love because the sky is beautiful... blue
  • and horses in the sky float by beautiful clouds... white

Simple rhymes, but it helps the baby to remember the names in English.

Watching cartoons and learning at the same time

English game video lessons Today, a lot of game video lessons in English on this topic have been released. Remember the wonderful cartoon about Sean the Train, this is both a cartoon and an exciting lesson. This video is about how the engine meets the robot and tells him about the full color palette, using the fruits and vegetables that he carries, and the appearance of himself and the robot as an example. But for some reason the robot paints everything with its most beloved white (see, some kind of program failure). The awakened train grabs his head and offers to paint everything anew.

Watching such videos, the kid enjoys the cartoon and at the same time learns colors.

If trains and robots seem somehow too iron, then we can think of octopuses. I liked the story about the octopus Gonya, who really wanted to paint the underwater world and finally found jars of paints.

By the way, I remembered another good old video about octopuses:

The study of colors in English usually does not present any particular difficulties due to the clarity of the material being studied. In this article, we will introduce you to how the primary colors are called in English with a translation into Russian. Not all English learners are familiar with English transcription, so we will teach you how to name colors in English with Russian pronunciation.

So, in the world there are a huge number of colors and shades. And far from each of them we can call one word even in our native language, not to mention a foreign one. And in order not to have a shortage of words denoting colors in English, it is not necessary to study all possible color options. It will be enough to know a couple of dozens of the main names most often used in speech.

Color names in English

Here are ten basic colors that children are first introduced to when learning English.

Yellow - yellow (Elou) [ˈjeləʊ]

Green - green (green) [ɡriːn]

Blue - blue, blue (blue) [bluː]

Brown - brown (brown) [braʊn]

White - white (white) [waɪt]

Red - red (ed) [red]

Orange - orange (Orange) [ˈɒrɪndʒ]

Pink - pink (pink) [pɪŋk]

Gray - gray (grey) [ɡreɪ]

Black - black (black) [blæk]

The pronunciation of flowers in English for children is usually not very difficult, most colors are indicated by one-syllable words and are easy to remember.

After you have mastered the first ten colors in English, you can add ten more colors to your vocabulary that you can see quite often in different situations.

Beige - beige (beige) [beɪʒ]

Golden - golden, golden (golden) [ˈɡəʊldən]

Emerald - emerald (Emerald) [ˈemərəld]

Coral - coral (coral) [ˈkɒrəl]

Copper - copper (kopa) [ˈkɒpə]

Olive - olive (Olive) [ˈɒlɪv]

Purple - purple, purple (ash) [ˈpɜːpəl]

Silver - silver, silvery (silva) [ˈsɪlvə]

Lilac - lilac (lilak) [ˈlaɪlək]

Khaki - khaki (kaki) [ˈkɑːki]

Thus, now you know the basic colors in English with transcription in Russian. There are twenty words in total, with which you can easily name the color of any item that you need.

In addition to the name of the color, sometimes you need to name the shade. The names of shades can be indicated by adding certain adjectives to the main color. For example: bright, dark, light, etc. They will allow you to convey the color saturation of the described phenomenon or object. Here are words that will help you more accurately indicate the desired color.

light- light (light) [ laɪt ]

Dark- dark (dak) [dɑːk]

Bright- bright (bright) [braɪt]

Dull- dim (gave) [ dʌl ]

Pale- pale (pale) [peɪl]

After you have learned the names of all colors in English, for better memorization and further training, you can try to name familiar objects in English, adding the name of the color to them. For example, a red sofa (red sofa), a white fridge (white refrigerator), light green walls (light green walls), dark blue socks (dark blue socks).

You also need to know how to correctly ask in English what color this or that object is. To do this, use the What color? (what colour). For example:

What is this?- What is it? (wot from zis?) [‘wɒt ɪz ðɪs]

This is a flower.- This is a flower. (zis from e flaua) [‘ðɪs ɪz ə ˈflaʊə]

What color is it?- What colour is he? (wat kala from it) [wɒt ‘kʌlʌ ɪz ɪt]

It is yellow.- He is yellow. (it from Yelou) [ɪtɪz ˈjeləʊ]

Learning colors in English in a playful way

If you are learning flower names in English with your kids, there are many fun game activities to come up with. Starting from playing with pencils - asking what color the pencil you are holding, and vice versa, so that the child asks the question.

One of the variants of such a game is "Guess". One participant hides a pencil behind his back, and the second tries to guess what color this pencil is. Structures used in this game:

-Is it...(color name)? - He ... (color name)?

- Yes, it is. (No, it isn't)- Yes. (Not)

For example:

Behind the back, the participant holds (a blue pencil)

Then he asks the second player a question:

What color is the pencil?- What color is the pencil? (wat kala from ze pensil) [wɒt ‘kʌlʌ ɪz ðə ˈpensl]

The second player starts guessing:

Is it red?- He is red? (from it ed) [ɪz ɪt red]

First member:

No, it isn't.

Is it yellow?- He is yellow? (from it Yelou) [ɪzɪt ˈjeləʊ]

No, it isn't.- Not. (know, it iznt) [ ‘nəʊ ɪt ‘ɪznt]

Is it blue?- Is it blue? (from it blu) [ɪz ɪt bluː]

Yes, it is.- Yes. (eu it from) [ ˈjes it ‘iz]

It is also good to remember colors in English for children to help your questions on a walk, when cleaning toys - “What color is this?”. The more memory exercises you do, the faster and more lasting the effect will be.

So, as you can see, remembering the names of flowers in English will not be difficult for either adults or children. Now you can go further in learning English. And most importantly - do not forget from time to time to return to the passed words and use them in combination with the newly learned ones.

Learning colors in English can be a lot of fun. Show the child a color and clearly name it several times in English. Ask your child what else is this color?

If you are studying, for example, do yellow with a child. At the end of the lesson, repeat a few more times what color the craft is.

Learn colors in English - flashcards for kids

When you move on to learning a new color, repeat the color you learned in the last lesson. Remember what kind of craft you did, pronouncing the already studied color several times. The smallest students will be interested if each lesson is taught by a character of the color being studied. For example, a fashion doll in a pink dress can talk about pink, and a cheerful orange will lead a lesson on learning orange.

Watch a cartoon in English with your child, where charming jars of paints dance and sing along with cartoon characters. A light song is remembered immediately, and the repeating motive is very popular with children.

When you offer children to watch educational cartoons in English:

  • It makes sense to explain to your child that there are different languages. So the Russian word "red" in English sounds "red". You may want to expand on the topic and explore with your child the question, “Why do people speak different languages?”
  • Repeat the colors in English and Russian when you are looking at a book, walking. Invite the child to remember the words from the song if he forgot the color in English.
  • You should not turn on such cartoons without stopping. Endless repetition will reduce the attention and interest of the child, and very soon he will cease to enjoy watching the cartoon.
  • Try to learn parts of the song or the whole song. Imagine how you will surprise grandparents with a song in English!
