Specialists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the USA have created an AI that performs a single task - it creates the scariest images.
The Nightmare Machine, or "Machine of Nightmares," as scientists called their development, was presented to the general public on the eve of Halloween.
The Machine uses an algorithm that learns what people find frightening, sinister, or just annoying, and based on this information generates images that are designed to scare us the most.
“Halloween is a time when people celebrate what scares them. So this is a great reason to launch an MIT project that studies society's fear of AI. And how to do it the best way if not make the AI scare us?" says the MIT website.
