After half a century of fierce struggle between the Saratov public and officials of the Ministry of Education, who, not without reason, feared opening another hotbed of radical sentiments among young people on the southeastern borders of the empire, the State Duma in early June 1909, as a result of heated debates, made a positive decision. Contemporary of the events M.F. Volkov in his memoirs quotes the words of P.A. Stolypin, who was the Chairman of the Council of Ministers in those years, addressed to the next deputation from the Saratov public: “...I stand for the university because Saratov, in cultural, educational and economic terms, is really a center in which it should have been founded long ago university..." On June 10, 1909, the Law on the establishment of a university in Saratov - the tenth and last Imperial Nicholas University - was signed. The All-Russian autocrat Nicholas II, while on the imperial yacht “Standard,” put his visa on the law: “Be it so.” On October 6 of the same year, after a prayer service and religious procession, Saratov residents laid a stone at the site of construction of future educational buildings. Thus began the history of the university, opened as part of one medical faculty (now Saratov State University named after N.G. Chernyshevsky), and with it the university period in the history of Saratov itself. This significant event was greeted in Russia as “a great celebration, not only local , but also national, a holiday of Russian higher science.” The grand opening of the university took place on December 6, 1909, on the name day of Nicholas II. All Russian universities, led by the Academy of Sciences, and many foreign universities - Cambridge, London, Paris, Leon, Vienna, Strasbourg, Naples - responded to this event. More than 800 welcoming telegrams and addresses were received on this day. A small building for a female paramedic school, completely unsuited for teaching, was allocated for the new university. Under the leadership of city architect A.M. Salko drew up a plan for the necessary alterations, which gave four classrooms, an auditorium, and two laboratories. The first rector of Nikolaev University was a talented surgeon, a prominent public figure, an ardent advocate of women's medical education in Russia, Professor Vasily Ivanovich Razumovsky, an exceptional person in all respects. Already at the age of twenty-seven he achieved the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences, and at forty-two he was promoted to full state councilor. The staff of the medical university was staffed very skillfully; outstanding medical figures were involved in teaching. Professors from Kazan University I.A. were appointed to Saratov University. Chuevsky - in the Department of Physiology (who also became the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine); V.V. Worms - in the department of physiological chemistry (and assumed the position of vice-rector); AND I. Gordyagin - at the Department of Botany; private associate professors of Moscow University V.D. Zernov - at the Department of Physics, B.I. Birukov - from the Department of Zoology with Comparative Anatomy and Parasitology and Private Associate Professor of Novorossiysk University N.G. Stadnitsky, founder of the Saratov morphological school - in the department of normal anatomy. The university has established seven departments: anatomy, physiology, zoology, physics, chemistry, surgery, botany. In 1909, 92 students and 14 free listeners entered the first year of the medical faculty of Saratov University. Thanks to the exceptional energy of V.I. Razumovsky began systematically delivering lectures on all 1st year subjects (normal anatomy, general physiology with histology, physics, chemistry and other disciplines) on September 23. The construction of the university complex was entrusted to the director of the Kazan Art School K.L. Müfke, who by that time already had extensive construction practice and was distinguished by ideal honesty. Already in the fall of 1909, he began designing, and in the spring of 1910, construction work began. The grand opening of the monument to the first rector of the university, Professor V.I. Razumovsky, on June 10, 2009, on the day of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the State Medical University, four buildings were erected for three years - two the building of Experimental Medicine, the building of the Physical Institute and in 1913 the fourth - the Anatomical Institute. On its pediment there is still under the bas-relief image of a skull made by the sculptor and modeler V.K. Fedorov, the inscription “Anatomical Institute” was preserved. Simultaneously with the construction of educational buildings on Moskovskaya Square, clinics for the university were designed in the Agafonovsky village. In September 1909, a scientific library was established at the university, its first director was I.A. Busse. The acquisition of the library fund began from purchased and donated books, the number of which steadily and rapidly increased from year to year. V.P. himself Razumovsky donated 526 volumes of valuable books to the library, mainly on surgery. A great contribution was made by the actual Privy Councilor, Secretary of State M. N. Galkin-Vraskoy, who donated over 8,000 volumes to the library. In accordance with the charter, in 1913 the formation of all 30 departments of theoretical and clinical profiles for the training of doctors was completed. The main clinical base of the university, and subsequently the medical institute, became the Clinical Town, the construction of which began in 1912. Being the rector of the university. V.P. Razumovsky always defended the interests of students. In February 1911, a strike of solidarity with workers broke out among students at Saratov University. The classrooms were empty, classes were disrupted. To combat these unrest, two ministries - education and internal affairs - merged. It was decided to immediately draft the students dismissed from the university into the army. Knowing this, the rector of the university V.I. Razumovsky did not fire a single student. To the reactionary tsarist Minister of Education L.A. Casso was displeased with the progressive beliefs, inflexibility, and integrity of the rector, so in 1912 he called early re-elections of the university board. The university council elected V.I.’s closest associate as rector. Razumovsky - I.A. Chuevsky, but the Minister of Education did not approve this candidacy. According to the existing charter of the university, in this situation, the former rector remained the acting head of the faculty. But Kasso still suspended V.I. Razumovsky from performing the duties of rector and assigned them to 43-year-old professor N.G. Stadnitsky, who served in this position from October 1912 to January 1914. At the same time, he was awarded the rank of state councilor. Razumovsky, who by that time had received the title of emeritus professor, switched to teaching, and after the February Revolution he became the chief surgeon of the Caucasian Front, where he did everything to improve surgical care for the wounded. In 1920, he had the opportunity to return to Saratov, where he headed the department of general surgery at the medical faculty of the university. Until May 1918, the university was headed by P.P. Zabolotnov. During his rectorship, the construction of a surgical building was in full swing, and the project of a clinic for ear, nose and throat diseases in the Clinical Town on the outskirts of the city was completed. In the fall of 1918, V.D. was elected to the post of rector of Saratov University. Zernov. From March 1921 to January 1923, the university was headed by V.V. Golubev, after whom the leadership of the university passed to Sergei Romanovich Mirotvortsev. He took over the university in an extremely neglected and disorganized state: due to war, revolution, and economic devastation, the university was brought to the point of impoverishment, although it had about 200 teachers and more than 4,000 students. The rector paid special attention to the needs of the university library: the library collection, which had not been replenished for some time, began to grow rapidly. His most important personal achievement is the restoration of university publishing activities: in 1923, the publication of “Scientific Notes of Saratov University” began. In the spring, the territory was cleared, improved and planted, construction work resumed in the Clinical Town. By the fall of 1926, three buildings were commissioned there: a surgical clinic, clinics for ear, nose, throat and nervous diseases. Now they belong to the Clinical Hospital of the Medical University, named after S.R. Mirotvortseva. He remained as rector until 1928 and became the last medical rector in the history of the classical Saratov University. Under the next, eighth, rector in 1930, the medical faculty of Saratov University was transformed into an independent higher educational institution - a medical institute with three faculties: therapeutic and preventive, sanitary and hygienic, maternal and infant health. By 1935, 1,600 students studied there. Then the position of rector was occupied by prominent scientists and brilliant teachers: A.K. Martynov, K.Ya. Shkhvatsabaya, I.A. Arnoldov, K.A. Shmelev, A.L. Yaroslavtsev, E.E. Samoilova, V.N. Abramenko, P.L. Rappoport, I.T. Bogoslovsky, G.M. Zhelyabovsky, I.M. Popovyan, B.A. Nikitin, N.R. Ivanov, V.F. Kirichuk, V.I. Goremykin, P.V. Glybochko.Outstanding figures of medical science and practical healthcare grew up from among the students of the Faculty of Medicine of Saratov University: laureate of the Lenin and State Prizes, Academician A.N. Bakulev, full members of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences A.A. Minkh, M.A. Kassirsky, N.N. Sirotinin, F.G. Uglov, corresponding members of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences I.V. Domaradsky, E.A. Berezov, K.N. Tretyakov, N.S. Kislyak, P.R. Ivanov and others. The danger of a new war, which intensified in the late 1930s, sharply increased the need for military doctors, which the only university that trained them, the Military Medical Academy in Leningrad, could not satisfy. By decision of the USSR Government, military medical faculties were created at three medical institutes, including Saratov, with the head V.I. Gerasimenko. Soon after the start of the war, he left for the front, and V.A. became the head of the faculty. Makarov. Persons who completed three years of medical school were admitted to the faculty on a voluntary basis; the training period was two years. The Military Medical Faculty at the Saratov Medical Institute honorably completed its task during the Great Patriotic War. During its existence (1939 -1943), nine graduations were made, and 1,336 military doctors received diplomas. Most of the university graduates participated in the battles. Many medical service officers gained invaluable front-line experience during the war years and became prominent organizers of military health care. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Victory, an obelisk was erected on the territory of the institute in memory of those who did not return from the war. In the 1940s - 1950s, a number of new departments were created on the basis of the institute: childhood infectious diseases, propaedeutics of childhood diseases, faculty pediatrics , hospital pediatrics, hospital surgery and hospital therapy of the pediatric faculty. During the years of his leadership, 95 doctors and more than 600 candidates of medical sciences were trained at the university, 32 new departments were opened. The number of students increased from 3,000 to 4,800 people: 25 interregional and regional centers for specialized medical care were opened on the basis of clinics. In 1961, a faculty for advanced training of doctors was opened at the institute; in 1965 - the newly formed military medical faculty. In 1967, a building was built in which the department of social hygiene and health care organization, an allergy center and a center for dictating medical records were built. In 1968, for the first time in the country, a department and clinic of neurosurgery were created - the Republican Neurosurgical center. In 1976, the Saratov Medical Institute was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. The pathology building was opened in 1982, housing the corresponding department of the pediatric faculty. In 1984, the construction of another building for the clinic and the department of anesthesiology and resuscitation was completed: construction of a consultative clinic began. In 1988, the Faculty of Dentistry was opened. In 1993, the Saratov Medical Institute was transformed to the medical university. In 1997, the faculty of pre-university training was created: the first intake of students was carried out for the department of “Nursing” at the medical faculty. From 2002 to March 2010, the university was headed by corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor P.V. Glybochko. During the years of his rectorship, dramatic changes took place at SSMU. In 2002, a medical and preventive faculty was created. In 2003, the first admission of students to the Faculty of Pharmacy was carried out. In 2004, the “Nursing” department at the Faculty of Medicine was transformed into the Institute of Nursing Education. At the same time, by the decision of the Independent Public Council, Saratov State Medical University was awarded the gold medal “100 Best Universities in Russia” and rector P. V. Glybochko was awarded the honorary badge “Rector of the Year.” In 2006, thanks to the efforts of the rector, the Research Institute of Clinical and Fundamental Uronephrology was organized. There is an opportunity to resume kidney transplant operations. Since that time, transplantation of related kidneys to patients with end-stage renal failure has been successfully carried out. At the same time, training began in the secondary vocational education program in the specialties of pharmacy, orthopedic dentistry and preventive medicine. In 2007, a new direction of training was opened in the specialty “clinical psychology”. June 10, 2009 Saratov State Medical University named after V.I. Razumovsky celebrated his 100th anniversary. The program of festive events included the consecration of the temple in honor of St. Luke (Voino-Yasenetsky), the opening of a monument to the first rector of the university, the opening of the university history museum and other ceremonial events. In June 2010, he became the rector of the Saratov State Medical University named after V.I. Razumovsky elected associate professor V.M. Popkov.Modern Medical University is an educational institution designed to promote professional medical education; a huge laboratory and storehouse of knowledge, a modern center of education, science and culture. Additional training for local therapists, local pediatricians and general practitioners is carried out both at the university’s training bases and through on-site courses. The boundaries of international cooperation are constantly expanding. International students from 47 countries around the world study at the university, including 39 foreign countries. In the near future, it is planned to increase their number. The opening of the Russian-Norwegian Center for Medical Research and regular international master classes are helping to improve the level of treatment in the university clinics. The university has four dissertation councils in 12 specialties, in which more than 40 doctoral degrees have been defended over the past five years and 200 candidate dissertations. A medical technology park has been created. So far, this is the first such park among medical universities in Russia. The Society of Young Scientists and Students of SSMU is a voluntary non-profit association of students, graduate students and young scientists (not older than 35 years), united on the basis of common scientific interests, one of the forms of self-government of the university. The student scientific society unites There are many active departmental scientific student circles. All university clinics operate under a program of providing expensive types of medical care, which allows the use of high-tech treatment methods. These are large institutions, they treat not only residents of Saratov and the region, but also patients coming from Penza, Ulyanovsk, Tambov and other regions. Saratov Medical University has established pedagogical technologies, its own creative person, which allows us to pose and solve the most serious problems in areas of medical education and practical healthcare. Much has changed over the century-long history of the university, but one thing remains unchanged: the glorious traditions of the Saratov Scientific Medical School are still carefully preserved here, people who invested their soul, energy and talent in the formation and development of the medical university and the Russian healthcare in general.
